During challenging times, the only way through is for communities to team up and create together. It's our mission at CODE313 to offer students the foundational skills needed to create, using today’s technology. In these unprecedented times we are more committed than ever to providing these essential skills.
In light of Governor Whitmore’s announcement for all Michigan schools to close from March 13 - April 6, 2020 due to the threat of the COVID-19; CODE313 wants to ensure that students are still engaged in learning technology. Through the launch of our CODE313 Virtual STEM Academy, elementary-high school students will have the opportunity to learn the FUNdamentals of computer science (code) in the comfort of their home while being a part of our CODING CLUB. Our club offers an online curriculum that is an exciting and accessible introduction to block-based programming that teaches students concepts such as commands and functions.
As corporations and non-profit organizations direct employees to work virtually, we want to ensure that students have the same opportunity to learn remotely.
Our first session will take place on Tuesday, March 24 from 10am – 12pm.So, where will your student begin? We will start with Microsoft Makecode Arcade to introduce students to coding basics through video game design. Club members will create submissions for designing their own video game. CODE313 Virtual STEM Academy staff will review and select one of the club member’s submissions. The club will meet virtually for 8 consecutive sessions (twice a week) and will work with virtual instructors to create the selected game from scratch.
Our virtual sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am-12:00pm., with the introductory session beginning on Tuesday, March 24th. The goal of the initiative is to make education accessible to students utilizing various multi-media platforms.
Together we will get through this.
